What's in a name?

"Hapax Legomenon" is a literary term used to describe a word or expression that appears only once within a context: for example in the complete works of an author or in a single piece.

In a musical sense, we believe this converts rather well to describe the works of great composers.

Who are we?

Founded by Dimitri Chrysostomou, Hapax Orchestra is based in London and made up of students, graduates and early career musicians from Universities and Conservatoires. We aim to not only perform the greatest pieces from the repertoire, but plan to put on other exciting cross-discipline projects. The first of these will be Silent Composition.
